Background
Dr. Holly Drankhan joined the WVDL Pathology Team in August 2026. She received both her BS in Zoology (2015) and DVM (2019) from Michigan State University. She then moved across the country to attend Washington State University for a combined veterinary anatomic pathology residency and PhD training program, which she completed in May 2026. The topic of her dissertation was treponeme-associated hoof disease (TAHD), an infectious pododermatitis causing lameness and debilitation in free-ranging elk in the northwestern United States. While completing her research and residency training at the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL), she developed special interests in dermatopathology and infectious diseases of domestic and wild ruminants. She is happy to return to the Midwest and is excited to explore the Madison area.
