The WVDL-Barron Laboratory is APHIS-approved to conduct the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of antibody to equine infectious anemia virus (EIA). An Official Federal EIA Report form is required to accompany all serum submissions, both paper and electronically generated (GVL or VSPS) forms are acceptable. To avoid delays in testing, ensure all paperwork is completed entirely and that the unique animal identifier is clearly documented on both the form and submitted serum – this information must match. To maintain sample integrity, remove serum from the clot and transfer the serum to another tube prior to shipping. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles as this may cause hemolysis and sample rejection. Samples should be kept cold during transport. All acceptable submissions can expect results within 72 hours of receipt by the WVDL-Barron.
